The number one question I get asked at every bridal makeup trial is ‘Kerry, how can I get my skin looking perfect for my wedding day?” By incorporating these steps into your beauty regimen, you can enhance the luminosity and overall health of your skin, ensuring a radiant look on your wedding day.

1. Optimise your skincare.

Assess your skin needs early and start your new bridal skincare routine as soon as possible.

Regular facials leading up to your wedding are crucial for combating stress-induced breakouts, assessing your skin needs and maintaining a bright complexion. Consistency is key! Establishing a comprehensive skincare routine several months or even a year ahead will yield more effective and long-lasting outcomes. Professional regular facials are recommended to start 6 months before your wedding date. Your final facial should be scheduled in no later than 2 weeks before your wedding.

2. Up your water intake

It doesn’t matter if your skin is dry, oily or combination - it craves water! Drinking an adequate amount of water is not just essential for overall health, but it also plays a crucial role in maintaining radiant and healthy skin. Hydration is key to keeping skin cells plump and moisturised, which helps in preventing dryness and dullness. When you're properly hydrated, your skin appears more supple, youthful, and vibrant. Water flushes out toxins from the body, promoting clearer and smoother skin by reducing the likelihood of acne and breakouts. Additionally, staying hydrated supports the natural elasticity of the skin, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse

Incorporating a cleanser into your skincare routine is paramount for maintaining healthy and radiant skin. Throughout the day, our skin accumulates dirt, oil, pollutants, and makeup, which can clog pores and lead to various skin issues such as acne, blackheads, and dullness. A cleanser effectively removes these impurities which allows your skin to breath!

The cleanser you should use depends on your skin type. Some of my favourites are:

  • For Oily Skin: Vichy - Normaderm Phytosolution Intensive Purifying Gel

4. Be aware of any dietary intolerances and ingredients that make your break out

Food intolerance occurs when the body has difficulty digesting certain foods, leading to various adverse reactions. While food intolerances differ from food allergies in that they don't involve the immune system, they can still impact your skin's health. When you consume foods that your body struggles to digest, it can trigger an inflammatory response, leading to the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals that may manifest as acne or other skin issues. Identifying and eliminating trigger foods from your diet can help reduce inflammation and improve skin health,

5. Protect your skin

Applying sunscreen as a base before makeup and primer and an SPF spray afterwards, creates a protective barrier against UV damage which shields your skin from potential harm. Additionally, many makeup products, such as foundations and tinted moisturisers, now include SPF offering an extra layer of defence against the sun. I always recommend using SPF50.

6. Sweat it out!

Planning a wedding is stressful! The endorphins released during exercise help every bride-to-be to feel a sense of calm and happiness which eases pre-wedding jitters and promotes a positive mindset. Plus, when you sweat nutrient-rich blood is brought to the surface by increased circulation, allowing essential vitamins and minerals to help fill in the gaps between skin cells and plump up tiny wrinkles.

7. Never underestimate the power of a good nights sleep

Getting a good night's sleep is essential for achieving clear skin. Adequate sleep allows the skin cells to repair damage caused by environmental stressors, such as UV rays and pollution, resulting in a smoother and more radiant complexion. Deep sleep sprays, nourishing moisturisers and facial oils are multi-purpose products designed to assist in getting you a peaceful 7-8 hours rest.

Some of my favourites include:

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream
